Semiconductor cooling, also known as electronic cooling, thermoelectric cooling, Peltier cooling, is a solid-state cooling technology. It operates by applying a direct current (DC) power source to a semiconductor module, which transfers heat from one side of the module to the other, thereby achieving cooling.


The application scope of semiconductor cooling technology is extensive, spanning fields such as medical equipment, aesthetic devices, telecommunications power systems, automotive applications, and laboratory apparatus. Within medical devices, the presence of internal heat sources, coupled with the multitude of factors influencing the temperature of internal components during medical procedures, necessitates highly effective cooling and thermal management systems to ensure safe and reliable operation.



As a solid-state cooling technology, semiconductor cooling differs significantly from vapor-compression refrigeration. It requires no refrigerant, expansion valve, or compressor. Consequently, it eliminates environmental concerns associated with refrigerant leakage and avoids issues like blockages within expansion valves caused by the freezing or sublimation of impurities at low temperatures. Furthermore, the absence of moving parts, such as a compressor, inherently reduces the potential for failures. Semiconductor cooling also offers advantages including high temperature control precision and a compact form factor. Semiconductor cooling chips (TECs - Thermoelectric Coolers) are current-operated energy conversion devices. 


Through precise input current control, they enable accurate temperature regulation for medical equipment and facilitate flexible design of thermal management modules. These chips exhibit very low thermal inertia, enabling extremely rapid heating and cooling cycles. Under conditions of effective heat dissipation at the hot side and no load at the cold side, a TEC can achieve its maximum temperature differential in under one minute after power is applied, thereby significantly enhancing the cooling efficiency of medical devices.
