The working principle of thermoelectric cooling devices is based on the Peltier effect, which offers unique advantages over traditional refrigeration technologies. Also known as thermoelectric cooling (TEC), electronic cooling or differential temperature cooling, it is an artificial refrigeration technology developed on the basis of the Peltier effect discovered by the French physicist Jean Charles Athanase Peltier.
Its principle relies on the Seebeck / thermoelectric effect of semiconductor materials. When direct current passes through a thermocouple composed of two different semiconductor materials connected in series, heat is absorbed at one junction and released at the other. By installing a heat dissipation device at the hot side, the cold side can transfer heat to form a simple, novel cooler.
Using this principle, a refrigeration unit can be constructed with a temperature range of -50 °C to 800 °C, variable working volume, functions including refrigeration, cooling and constant temperature control, and precise point-by-point temperature regulation.
Thermoelectric cooling technology is characterized by no refrigerants, compact structure, and suitability for applications where refrigerant leakage is prohibited, and low weight and small size are required.
The cold water tank of the water dispenser contacts the cold side of the thermoelectric cooling module. A cylindrical cold cup or aluminum spiral cold rod extending into the water tank absorbs heat from the water. The hot side of the TEC module is connected to a heat sink, which usually uses an axial fan to forcibly dissipate heat.
Water dispensers adopting thermoelectric cooling technology have many advantages: no noise, no refrigerant (thus no environmental pollution), light weight and small size, making them highly effective for cooling in limited spaces. Therefore, thermoelectric cooling technology is widely applied in water dispensers.
